The Trouble with My Name  is a high-octane, hilarious one-man show.

Ávila is a poet, novelist, storyteller and professor of English at Northampton Community College.  His bestselling novel, Different, became an award-winning film entitled Miente, screened in over a dozen countries. His poetry books The Symmetry of Time and The Dead Man’s Position earned awards from the Pen Club and The Puerto Rico Institute of Culture.  Other books include Broken Glass on the Carpet, The Professor in Ruins, and The Oldest Profession.

The Trouble with My Name consolidates Ávila’s talents as a poet and professor. The autobiographical journey moves between cultures to provide a fascinating perspective of the American Latino struggle to dispel misconceptions about identity and place in the world. The performance examines issues of language, race, and social justice through the story of his life and poetry, illustrating what it means to be the American of the future.
