Premiere of a one-act dance opera by Paul Salerni based on a libretto by Dana Gioia, California’s Poet Laureate. Also included on the program is Salerni’s Daliance, five movements for string quartet and percussion with featured artists Michael Spencer Phillips, choreographer/dancer, the Dalí Quartet and Miles Salerni, percussion.
Jorgensen and pianist Steve Beck present music from the 20th-century that features a view into the complexities of a changing world. The tragically haunted Shostakovich Violin Sonata is juxtaposed with the Prokofiev’s romantic Five Melodies, Bartok’s folk-flavored Rhapsody No. 1 and Debussy’s fresh-spirited Violin Sonata.
